Kazanlak

Kazanlak begins its history in the Neolithic. In the 5th - 4th centuries BC flourished the Thracian city of Sevtopolis, which became the capital of the Thracian Odris state. Today the ancient city falls under the waters of the Koprinka dam, 5 km from Kazanlak. There is historical evidence of campaigns by Philip of Macedon and Alexander the Great that passed through the territory of the present-day city. During the time of the Roman Empire, the land was known and famous for its roses. Pliny the Younger describes more than 20 varieties of roses and gives the name of one of the varieties - Thracian Rose.

The present-day city arose at the end of the 14th century. It quickly gained worldwide popularity for growing roses and producing rose oil. Here is the only Museum of the Oil-bearing Rose in the world.

The beauty of nature and the bewitching rose scent have awakened the inspiration and creative talent of great Bulgarian artists. Don't miss the Chudomir Literary and Art Museum, which houses more than 15,000 original manuscripts, drawings, sketches, letters, books, and personal belongings of Chudomir and his wife, the artist Mara Chorbadzhiyska. Artists Petko Klisurov, Nenko Balkanski, Ivan Milev, Dechko Uzunov, Rosen Kavrakov were born in Kazanlak.

A rich history, a colorful cultural heritage and remarkable works of art await you in Kazanlak. Let's travel together each of the seven days of the week.
